Our Preschool

Parents set the foundation for a child’s life long health and learning. Supportive, caring, consistent relationships between child and parent are key to healthy development (intellectually, socially, and physically).
Preschool supports the work the parents do, striving to develop a strong and resilient learner identity. Our preschool values play as an essential medium through which children participate with others in an active learning process. Our teachers create “invitations to play” by providing diverse materials for exploration and representation which encourage making choices, problem solving, asking questions, expressing ideas, imagination and creativity. It is our privilege to work with families in the care and education of their children.

Classes

Our classes (maximum of 12) are mixed ages, threes and fours.   Age mixing allows younger children to engage in and learn from activities that they could not do alone or with playmates of the same age. Mixed age play provides the older participants practice in nurturing and leading, opportunities to learn through teaching, and inspiration for creative and imaginative activities. Children must turn three by December 31, 2021 to attend in September 2021.

The classes are designed to learn and socialize in a small group and to introduce the enjoyment of art, stories, music, movement and drama. The three day program provides the child an opportunity to prepare food such as cold snacks, biscuits, soup, pizza, cookies etc.

Preschool Teachers

Doris Lloyd

Hi, my name is Ms. Lloyd, and I am the early learning educator in the Tuesday/Thursday preschool program. Since 2012 I have been working in various early childhood settings. FCB has been my work home since 2018 where I have been an educational assistant working in both the FCB kindergarten and preschool programs. My passion is working with young minds and seeing them develop throughout the year!

I have 3 amazing sons who I love spending time with. I enjoy music, working out, organizing, and spending time with family and friends in my free time.

Morgan Roberts

Hello! My name is Miss Roberts. I am the early learning educator for Village Square Preschool. I have been with Foothills Creative Beginnings since 2017 and working with children in a variety of settings since 2015. Having grown up in the area I am very excited about the opportunity to be a part of the education community here. My true passion is helping children achieve their full potential. I enjoy hiking, sewing, and spending time with my puppy and family in my free time.

Michele Steier

I am Mrs. Steier and I am the Preschool Director for both our Cochrane and Calgary locations along with the Monday/Wednesday/Friday early learning educator in Cochrane. I have been working in preschool settings since 2007 both as an educational assistant working with children with exceptional needs and as a preschool educator. I studied early childhood education and development, I am a level 3 early childhood educator (child development supervisor), and certified in Flight; Alberta’s early learning and care curriculum. I have been an educator at FCB since 2013 and became the Preschool Director in 2020.

I believe that preschool is an opportunity for children to develop their love of learning and grow within a caring learning community. I am passionate about actively supporting children’s unique development and providing occasions for children to acquire knowledge and skills by building on their existing competencies. I pride myself on building secure relationships with each child and creating a responsive, play-based environment.

I live in Cochrane with my husband, daughter, and our 3 cats. In my personal time I, enjoy camping, gardening, and painting.
