POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Policies and procedures are published in detail in the preschool handbook which each parent, assistant and staff member receives prior to the start of the school year. On the registration form the parent will acknowledge that they have read, understand and will abide by these policies.
CHILD DISCIPLINE POLICY:
Our first concern is that all the children in the center are safe, comfortable and feeling free to develop their imagination and explore with a sense of confidence. Any disciplinary action must be reasonable in the circumstances and respect the dignity of the child and give recognition to the child’s feelings. Disciplinary action may not include any form of physical punishment, neglect, or emotional abuse. If a child’s behavior poses a threat to the comfort of the group, conferences with the parents would be initiated and the possibility of professional help addressed. The final recourse would be to have the parent withdraw the child from the program.
OFF SITE ACTIVITY POLICY:
For routine off-site activities, such as walks in the neighbourhood or visits to the nearby community playground, parents will provide authorization on the Student Information Form. FCB may organize an off-site activity requiring transport and parent involvement. Specific consent forms are required.
ILLNESS / ACCIDENT POLICY:
If a child exhibits signs or symptoms of illness or is injured while at Foothills Creative Beginnings the parent/guardian will be called to pick up the child immediately. If the condition of the child is considered serious enough EMS will be summoned and the parent contacted. If an ambulance (emergency health care) is called parents must assume the cost of this service. FCB staff will not transport sick or injured children for treatment.
PROVISION OF HEALTH CARE POLICY:
Foothills Creative Beginnings Preschool will provide or allow for the provision of health care to a child only if written consent and direction has been received from the child’s parent or the health care provided is in the nature of first aid.
PEANUT FREE POLICY:
Because peanuts are a common and often severe allergy, no peanuts or peanut products are allowed at our preschool.
SMOKING POLICY:
No person may smoke in the building at any time.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE POLICY:
The attendance book is a legal document that the parent/caregiver must sign “in” on arrival and “out” upon departure. A child will be released only to an adult. No child will be released to a person other than a parent without authorization.
STUDENT INFORMATION FORM and PAYMENT:
No child may attend without a completed form. The Student Information Form and post-dated cheques are required on or before the orientations days to secure your child’s space in the program.
WITHDRAWALS POLICY:
One month’s notice is required if a child is to be withdrawn. One month’s tuition will be charged when notice is less than one month.
CLASS LISTS:
Class lists (including the child’s name, parents’ names, addresses, phone numbers) are given to the parents in your child’s class. A parent may request to have certain information excluded.
PHOTO POLICY:
The teachers may take photos of the children as a form of documentation of each child’s achievements and discoveries and may post them within the classroom. The children are not identified by name. If this is not acceptable to you, please indicate on the registration form and talk to your child’s teacher.
PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT:
Our program is not dependent on parent volunteers. Parents are welcome to stay at any time. Parents participate in special events. Each parent is invited to spend an entire session with his/her child during January and February. Parents supply the snack on a rotating basis. A teacher may request a parent to help with a special project or outing.
